Keyword Research: SEMRush

Something changed awhile back while I was doing to some keyword research. As I normally would during my research process, I clicked on my shortcut to SEODigger.com to analyze one of my client’s competitors, and I noticed something somewhat scary: the site had moved to a domain I had never heard of: SEMRush.com.

I won’t lie, at first I was nervous that I had lost one of my favorite SEO software programs. But then I realized that I had landed on a page with both paid and organic data from Google, very similar to what I would find on SpyFu.com, but the page actually loaded on the first try without having to F5 on my keyboard.

Beyond the usual advertising budget estimates and top keywords, SEMRush also provided insights such as potential ad traffic buyers. Quickly addicted to the SEO software I had to find out the price and once I learned that it was more affordable than SpyFu.com, I was sold.

The user interface, as you can see below is much easier on the eyes. The export feature never breaks the way SpyFu does on occasion and without the lag time during download. Take a look at the UI yourself, below.

Based on the price, user experience, and amount of data SEMRush provides, it’s without a doubt one of the best keyword research SEO software tools available online. Let us know what you think of SEMRush, please comment below.

SEMRush is a great bit of kit for analysing your historical seo progress, but does nothing to your actual rankings. The link building tab leaves most of the work up to you. Then you can either use a tool like Ignite SEO to build the links automatically, or find some good footprints and do it yourself.
